Edward Michael Popek was born on March 1, 1922 in Wild Rose. His parents were Albert (originally Wojciech) Popek born April 20, 1880 in Ranerzuw, Poland. He immigrated in 1898. His wife was Mary Pochern. She was born in August 1879 in Poland. hey were married January 3, 1902 in Chicago. Eddie had a weakness for women, an appearance of looking guilty, "Hello stuck up" as a favorite saying and experience with John Deere tractors. He played Mr. Angus, attorney for the Van Dyke estate in "Sound Your Horn" as a Junior and "Felix Thackeray, the man of all work in "Intimate Enemies" as a Senior. He graduated in 1939. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps September 30, 1942 in Milwaukee. His skills were listed as semi-skilled machine shop. He took pre-flight training in San Antonio and then 9 weeks of basic pilot school at Perrin Field in Texas on 450 horsepower planes before advanced school. He married Erma Lea McMullin November 21 1948 at the Baptist Church in Orrick, Missouri. He taught at Central Junior High in St Louis. He died December 26, 2001 in St Louis. His wife died April 19, 2010. |
