Mr & Mrs William Arveson

William Arveson was born May 20, 1834 in Norway.
He settled in the Town of Mt. Morris.  He bought 120
acres of land in Section 18, in the Town of Mt Morris
December 15, 1857.  He married Gunhild Gullicksdatter,
whose father had a farm name of Hamre, on
November 18, 1859.  He enlisted in the 50th Regiment
of the Wisconsin Infantry, Co. D February 13, 1865. 
He mustered out August 8, 1866.  His highest rank was
a corporal.  His military papers indicate that he was
5 feet 8 inches in height and had dark hair and blue
eyes.  His wife was born in Norway.  Her father was
Gulick Hamre which means he used his farm name as
his surname,  Gulick was 75 at the time of the 1870
census.  William & Gunhild had a daughter Gena.  She
married Martin Hamre and by 1920 they were living in
Montana.  William was stricken with pneumonia and
died March 23, 1909.  Rev. Kluxdahl of Neenah
eturned to preach the funeral sermon.   Gunhild died
May 14, 1909 of apoplexy less than two months after
her husband.  Both are buried in Holden Lutheran
Cemetery in Mt Morris.
