Methodist Church in Wild Rose WI around 1910

This picture of the Methodist Church shows how 
people got to church on Sunday.  The poles in the 
picture show that it was lighting system in Wild 
Rose,  The contract was for the Rose Milling Co. 
owned by Edward Hoaglin install 6 lights as early 
as Nov. 1st. The contract provided for $60 a year 
per light. Thelights were to burn from 1/2 hour 
after sunset until 11PM  excepting moonlight nights.  
The lights will be 2,000 candle power.  Later the 
number of lights increased.The church was not
in the first batch of lights so the picture is likely at 
least 1910.

Eldred Etheridge

Eldred was born March 9, 1913 in Wild Rose to
Milfred Etheridge and Alice Jenks.  They later
moved to Clintonville where Eldred worked for Four
Wheel Drive even serving inn Egypt and Turkey.
He married Sylvia Westphal in Cairo, Egypt on June 15,
1956. He died March 14, 1995 in Suring, WI.

Rev Daniel Woodward

Rev Daniel Woodward was born Sept. 25, 1864 near Wild
Rose WI to John Butler Woodward and his wife Sarah Moore.
He was ordained a Methodist minister in Stevens Point on
Oct. 4, 1896. He served Methodist churches in Crystal Lake,
Stockbridge, Wausau, Randolph, Merrill, Sturgeon Bay and
Omro. He left the Methodist at this point. He was appointed
Warden at the state prison at Waupun. He made many changes
for the better treatment of prisoners including a half holiday on
Saturday, and schools for illiterate prisoners. He was a
Chautauqua lecturer or 4 years. Then he was a Congregational
minister serving Omro, Oconomowoc, Medford, Kaukauna,
Elcho, Three Lakes, Randolph, and Pine River. By 1940 he was
pastor for the Open Door Baptist Church in Randolph. He
married Jennie Lynd Jenks, daughter of John Tower Jenks and
Polly Jeffers on Oct. 26, 1885 in Wild Rose. She died in 1927
Daniel died June 22, 1944 in Portage.

This property belonged to Elisha & Jane Stewart and 
is part of the Wild Rose Historical Society Museum.
His wife was Sarah, and they had a daughter Jessie, son 
Louis, and a daughter Florence.

William Anselm moved to the Smart House from the Charles Sage house 1942

Anselm bought Glenn Etheridge's gargage on Main St. It later
was Levi Nelson's Nash gargage.

Jerome Underhill & his wife Elzabeth J Jones

Jerome Underhill was born in 1854 to George & Hannah Underhill.
He married Elizabeth J Jones from Wild Rose Nov. 17, 1880. She 
was the daughter of Robert H & Mary Jones. He as born and died
in Waukesha County. Elizabeth also called Lizzie was born in the
Town of Rose, Waushara County and in Waukesha County.


William Henry Rice

William Henry Rice was born Sept. 11, 1844 in Russell,
St Lawrence county, NY. His parents were from Ireland.
He was a cousin of Ed Gilson, of the Town of Wautoma. Ed
was the husband of Harriet Jeffers Gilson. He waa a carpenter 
and  a joiner when he lived with he Gilsons. He served in
the 16th Wis. Infantry in the Civil War. He was wounded in the
hip by a shot.  He married Carolyn "Carrie" Milius in Plainfield,
WI on May 6, 1891.  She lied from 1879-1959 and they are 
buried in Plainfield Cemetery.

married William Roth, Nancy Permelia Pease Etheridge is the
grandmother and father Alanson Pease Etheridge.

Hubert Etheridge

Hubert Etheridge was born in 1883 in Wild Rose and
died May 2, 1889 in Merrill, Lincoln County WI.
His parents were Alanson Pease Etheridge and Emma
Spicer.

Phoebe Ann Jones (Mrs Harvey Nelson)

Phoebe Jones was born to Benjamin T Jones and wife Mary
Jane Davies on Oct 4, 1888. She married Harvey Nelson.
They had a daughter Aredes Nelson.  They lived in Wild Rose
but later moved to Rockford, Illinois where Phoebe died
June 30, 1967. They lived on Maple Ave in Wild Rose.

Della Mae Davies Moss

Della Mae Davies Moss was the 7th of  8 children of William Morris Davies 
(he was know as Bill Morris) and  his wife, Margaret. She was born Aug.
8, 1901 in the Town of Rose. Della played on the girls basketball team.
