This is a picture from the dedication of the Wild Rose gym in 1938. The actual dedication took place on Friday, February 4, 1938. Principal, William C Godson was the master of ceremonies. Rev. W. T. Williams gave the invocation and benediction. Frank Bell, director of the Works Project Administration gave the keys to Dr. Ben Fisher who was President of the School Board. A quartet of Frances Ruland Fitzstephens, Gwendora Williams Issacs, Edgar Frater and Gordon Caves sang. State Superintendent of Schools, John Callahan gave the dedication address. The band and chorus directed by Gladys Fosnot lead the community in the Loyalty Song and Alma Mater. Before this all class plays were at the Mercantile Hall and the basketball games were in the old hall on River Street. Notice cars on the street. |
