Norman Harvey Patterson was born June 8, 1922 in Waupaca. His parents were Ellery Patterson (1890- 1955) and Dora Nielsen (1900-1999). While attending Wild Rose High School he was allowed to pick up the school's mail. As luck would have it, Principal William Godson caught him taking a smoking break while performing this duty. Godson suspended him from school. His father then made him do heavy physical work. Norman enlisted in the Air Force. By February of 1943 he had been promoted to Master Sergeant. He was one of the youngest at that post in the country. He serviced at Chanute Field, IL, then he entered Air Corps & Supply Clerks school at Lowry Field, Denver. He transferred to Barksdale Field, LA. The next stop the army flying school at Columbus, Mississippi. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Norman married Joyce Potter, daughter of Minor Potter and Edith Evans who was also a graduated of the Wild Rose class of 1939. They had two children. Norman died November 6, 2000 in Bloomington, Minnesota. |

I worked with Norman at the Veterans Administration Regional Office in St Paul for a number of years. He had so many interesting stories to tell of his Air Force service days. He was a good co-worker, a good friend, and a good man.
Rest in Peace.
