Rob Williams

Richard Robinson Williams was born August 20, 
1921 in Mifflin, Iowa County, Wisconsin to Rev. 
William T Williams and his wife Sarah Thomas.  
Both of his parents were born in Anglesey in 
Northern Wales.  He was usually called by his 
second name or the shortened version
of "Rob". He graduated from Wild Rose High 

School in 1939. He enlisted in service in 
Milwaukee on August 19, 1942. At that time he 
was five feet nine inches and weighed 184 
pounds.  He was first sent to Fort Sheridan ,
Illinois.  He then went to Camp 
Wolters in 

Texas.  His battalion stressed heavy weapons 
training. In January of 1943 Rob was 
transferred to Fort Meade in Maryland.
Later he was at Camp Gordon in Georgia. By 

December of 1943 he was at Camp Campbell, 
Kentucky.  Rob married Melba Jean Simonson on 
April 10, 1944.  She was the daughter of Russell 
Simonson and Alice Murty.  He was a rural mail 
carrier, a member of the Methodist Church, the 
Daniel Dopp American Legion Post, serviced
in the Wild Rose volunteer fire department for 32 years
and was on the Village Board for many years.  They had
4 children Kaye, Kitty, Kara and Keith.  Keith died in
2006 at 48.  Rob died October 2, 1981 and was buried
in the Mt Morris Holden Cemetery.
