Lewis Protheroe was born April 19, 1878 in the Town of Springwater to Thomas and Ann Protheroe. In 1898 he served in the Spanish-American War in Co. c, 1st Wisconsin Infantry. He married Gertrude Jones, daughter of Daniel W Jones and Margaretta Williams on April 3, 1901. They had three children: Clyde, Myrtle and Neil. The last two died in infancy. Myrtle lived about 13 months and Neil about a month. Lewis was part of the 1905 posse to capture the robbers in Wild Rose. He was a drayman at the time. He was a farmer and later was a prison guard.
His WWII draft registration listed him as 6 feet, 200 pounds,
with hazel eyes and gray hair. Gertrude was the of Daniel W
Jones and Margaretta Williams. Her father was he hotel
keeper in 1880. |
