Jack Locke Frater was born July 25, 1932 in
Waupaca. His parents were C Frederick Frater
and Hazel G Frost. He graduated from Wild
Rose High School in 1950. He entered the
Army in March of 1951 at Fort Bragg in North
Carolina. Jack was sent to Korea reaching it
October 25, 1951. He was a member of the
160th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry
Division. He was seriously injured in North
Korea on November 16, 1951 and returned
to duty on March 1, 1952. He was killed in
action while fighting in North Korea on
June 17, 1952. Private Frater was awarded
the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the
Combat Infantryman's Badge, The Defense
Service Medal, the Republic of Korea War
Service Medal and the Korean Presidential
Unit Citation. His service occupation was light
weapons infantryman. His military funeral was
held August 27, 1952 at the Dopp Church.
