This picture was taken around 1953-54 time at N5677 17th Ave in the of Rose. Maggie Ellen Thomas was born April 2, 1869 to William John Thomas (1828-1901) and Mary Elizabeth Williams (1829-1883). Maggie married James "Jeff" Murty (June 22, 1860-Aug. 24, 1936). James tombstone says he was born in 1861 but the US Census records has him and his twin brother, Robert listed in the 1860 census. They were married April 29, 1888 in Wautoma. They lived in the Town of Mt. Morris until they moved to her parents homestead on 17th in the Town of Rose in 1903. Their children were Rodney, Maty, Leo, Esther Colligan, & Alice Simonson. Leo died at 6 and another daughter Florence died under a year old. Maggie preferred goat's milk so they had goats. Maggie chopped the head off of a skunk with a shovel. It was stealing eggs from the chicken coop and she was not sprayed. Maggie died May 12, 1958. They were buried in Oakhill. Her sister Emily Ann (Em" Thomas was born Jan. 28, 1858 in the Tow of Rose, She married Robert T Henry (1856-1928)i n Chicago on Sept. 9, 1885. Robert did the plaster work in the Elisha Stewart house in April of 1884. The Stewart house is part of the Wild Rose Museum. They had 4 boys: Guy, Carson, Ira & Otis. Em died Dec 24, 1954 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois where her son Otis lived. |
