Robert Ross Caves was born May 24, 1924 in Hancock, WI to Ross McKinley Caves and Grace Edith Morgan. Bob went to Wild Rose H.S. His appearance was notice able freckles. He had a weakness for blondes. His favorite song was “Tell Me Why.” His saying was “It makes no difference”. He wanted to a truck driver. He was elected Treasurer of the freshman class and later he was vice-chairman of the senior class. He made the A team in basketball as a junior Cookson selected him to be prom king. He played cornet and played duets with Joy Etheridge at tournaments. He graduated with the class of 1941. He married Jessie Vergin (1921-2006) on September 2, 1944 in Poy Sippi. In 1963 he received a permit to haul fertilizer in bulk from Midland Cooperatives and agricultural lime from the Waupaca terminal of Mayville White Lime Works. He played donkey basketball on the Lions team as a fund raiser. He was a 2nd class Scout in August of 1938 for troop 55. Bob died January 11, 1980 in Wild Rose. He and Jessie are buried in Oak Hill. |
