Oral Clayton and Mary Humphrey


Oral Clayton (left) was born September 1, 1902 in the
Town of Springwater to David R Clayton (1869-1947)
and Annie Davies (1874-1956). She attended 2 years
of high school  in Wild Rose with the Class of 1920 .This
picture is from high school. By 1930 she was living in
Detroit as a servant for the Marvin Williams family. 
She married Roger S. Calvert November 9,1935 in Detroit.
is parents were Frank J Calvert and Olive Rogers. They
moved to Jamestown, Boulder County, Colorado.  Oral
died there March 18, 1972. Roger died January 1, 1974
in a car accident where the car flipped over 2 times and
he died of head & chest injuries They had a son Daniel.
Mary Humphrey was born April 9, 1903 to Edward R
Humphrey (Jan. 29, 1854-Dec.4, 1920) and Annie Jones
(Jul. 4, 1871-Sept. 1957) . They are both buried  the
Springwater Cemetery. Mary along with her mother,
Annie lived in Oconto while Mary taught there.  While
living in Oconto, Mary earned $1500 and Annie paid $25
per month rent. She return to Wild Rose to teach until
she retired. She was active in lots of groups: the
Women's Federation, Eastern Star, the Methodist Church
where she sang in the choir and played the organ.  But
Mary is likely to be most remembered for her scholarship f
und at Wild Rose High School.
