Shirley Opperman

Shirley Ervin Opperman was born July 12, 1920 in Coloma.
His parents were Edward Opperman (1886-1958) and
Emma Oppermann (1892-1965). Edward's father was
William Opperman and Emma's father was Johann or
later John Oppermann. Many people assume that Shirley
is a woman's name but Wild Rose had another man named
Dr. Shirley L. Hadden who started the Wild Rose hospital.
He used his initials. Shirley was a member of the Class
of 1941 at Wild Rose. His nickname was Oppy. His
appearance was serious. History was his weakness.
Shirley's favorite saying was "that's what you think." 
His favorite song was “I’m a stern old bachelor.’’ Shirley
wanted to be taller. He lived and worked in Stevens
Point in 1942. By 1949 was living and working in Oshkosh.
He was a member of the Salvation Army. He also was
elected yeoman by the Oshkosh radio team in 1980. 
He died in Oshkosh September 13, 1988. He is buried
in Oak Hill in Wild Rose. Shirley had 6 half siblings from
his mother's marriage to Adolf Boesler (1887-1976). The
first three died shortly after birth and they were Lena,
Ernest and George. Leonard, Sophia, and Marie were raised
by their mother and stepfather.  His full siblings were:
Carmen, Kathleen, Hildegarde, and James who died before
he was school age.
