Oren J Jenks was born Nov. 27, 1856 in Rose, Wayne County, NY to John Tower Jenks (1814-1883) and Polly Jane Jeffers (1830-1898) daughter of John Jeffers (1796-1876) and Lydia Way (1808 - 1863). Oren married Mary Irene Etheridge, daughter of Josiah Etheridge ( 1829-1922) and Nancy Permelia Pease (1836-1912). Oren had a sorghum mill in Wild Rose which he sold in early 1884 along with a single buggy, a hand lumber wagon, a pair of bob sleds, hand cutter and a black mare. In 1903 he and his son Clarence (1878-1936) had a potato firm where they weighed potatoes at the store. The family moved to Tacoma, Washington where he died 16, 1910. He is buried in Oakhill, His wife Mary was born in the Town of Rose, Waushara County and died in Sunnyside, Washington where she was buried. Oren also had two patents a window brace and fasterner in 1899 & 1902. Josiah & Permelia are buried in Wild Rose
Union. The other Jenks and Jeffers are buried in Mt.
Pleasant Cemetery. Clarence Etheridge Jenks (1878-1936)
married Nellie Bowen (1881-1981) daughter of David R
Bowen and they are buried in Oakhill. Clarence was
electrocuted when a 6,600 -volt wire failed and he and his
son Stanley were burned. |
