George Max Dopp

This picture is taken when George graduated 
from Ripon College. George Max Dopp was 
one of the three graduates from the first Wild
Rose High School class that was a full four 
years.   George was born August 25, 1893 in 
the Town of Belmont, Portage County to Joseph 
L Dopp and his wife Della Darling.  George 
married Pearl Pierce, daughter of Jerry C Pierce 
and Fanny Etheridge on June 16, 1926 in Ripon, 
Wisconsin.  They adopted two children: Robert 
and Sylvia.  George started out as a farmer 
but he later had a general store at 465 Main 
Street.  He was Chairman of the Board
and President of the Union State Bank for 

over 20 years.  He served on the County Board.  
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member 
of the Shrine.  He was a charter member of 
the Wild Rose Historical Society. He was 
involved in helping bring  the Hospital to Wild 
Rose.  He was a member of the Methodist 
Church.  He enjoyed golfing. George died 
December 5, 1982 In Fort Myers, Florida 
following artery bypass surgery.  He and his wife 
are buried in Greenvale Cemetery which was 
also known as Dopp Cemetery off from Highway 
22 toward Waupaca.
