Mary Humphrey was the daughter of Edward R Humphrey and Annie Jones. She was born April 9, 1903 in the Town of Springwater in Waushara County. She graduated from Wild Rose High School and the University of Wisconsin. She taught school for 45 years in Wild Rose as well as Wautoma, Oconto, and Oxford. She was active in the Wild Rose Historical Society, the Wild Roe Methodist Church (including the Women's group, the choir and as an organist). She was a member of the Republican Party , the Wautoma Chapter of the Eastern Star, and the Gilbert Lake Association. She established a scholarship fund for Wild Rose students going to college.
