Dr. Alfred W Carey was born January 9, 1853 in Euphemia, Ontario, Canada.He graduated from Woodstock College and taught for four years. He then graduated from Detroit Medical College in 1881. To better prepare himself he took a postgraduate course in Eye Surgery at the University of New York City. He first practiced in Caro, Michigan. He taught at Toledo Medical College for one year. He came to Wild Rose in September 1892. He built a house at 530 Main St. in Wild Rose in 1894. In March of 1895 he got the first telephone in Wild Rose. He married Phoebe Brown in 1875. They had three children Mary and Fred and the third died in infancy. He married Della Richards in 1890 and they had two sons Richard and Phillip. Dr Carey died of a ruptured appendix on March 23, 1899. His widow was a music teacher and in 1901 she married Dr. William Wilcox who came to Wild Rose. Dr. Carey had a number of very successful eye surgeries. He had the red house on the corner of Main St and River St built. Even though he had a telephone a snow storm prohibit help for his appendix. |
