    parents Isaac Smith Effie Jeffers; 

    Elizabeth
    Etheridge (1903-1984) married  Erwin 
    Legreid, her parents were

    Andrew Etheridge and; Louisa  Smith;

    Evelyn Anne Jenks was born 17 March 1905 in her parents' home which also
    contained the post office (and still does exist in 2019) her parents were
    George Washington Jenks and Isabelle/Isabella "Belle" Dalziel.
    She married George Edward Haack.She died in 1986.

Dr Fisher's House
















Dr.Ben Fisher''s house was locate on the corner SW corner of
Division where it intersects Park Ave. It high school and grade
school. Dr. Fisher was one of the doctors who treated the 1905
Wild Rose robbers.

Grandma Anderson died when I was 5 but I remember her being so happy that I was the first girl. At that age I only knew I had only uncles but didn't know that she also had a daughter, Ada died of flu which turned into pneumonia. She was frail and very thin.  She died at 75.

Tuition was only $20 for a semester in 1941. Beverly lived in Nelson Hall. She often went back to Wild Rose over the weekend.  Others who went in the same car were Olney Holt, Natalie Weiser Colligan and Bruce McCormick. Olney kept Bruce from too fast. Without Olney they got back in less than 35 minutes.

Smith School in the Town of Rose


















This school was located off from County P. You would turn left
at the first road,  Blanche Etheridge later Murty taught there in
the early 1900's. She roomed with the Earl Smith family. Women
teachers usually lived with family closest to the school. She had
to get to school to start the fire before  the kids came.

Pine River School in Waushara County

This is a picture from 1960 of the Old Pine School 
in section 23 of the town of Springwater. It was 
located in the northwest corner of the section and 
was on land of William P. Peterson at the time of 
the 1914 plat book. Peterson also owned land 
in 14 which was across the street from the 
school. The land was later owned by Junior Mumbrue.

Postcard to Rodney Murty from Hellen Merrifield

















Hellen Merrifield was a Principal in Wild Rose when Rodney Murty
was in high school.  Wild Rose had only three years when he was in
school so this card is asking if he had gone on to school. Hellen was
one of the first three women elected to the Wisconsin Legislature in
1924.  By that time her name was Hellen Merrifield Brooks and she
was living in Coloma. Her husband died. Her second husband was
Edward Shay.

Fred Jenks was the son of John Tower Jenks and Polly Jeffers. He was born 11 July 1870.
He married Marion Reilly July 3,, 1890 in Waushara County. Fred died the 1st of June 1890 in Winnebago County.

Wild Rose had three brothers who came to Wild Rose from Bishops Cleeve. Josiah came in 1848 when all of Waushara County was listed as Indianlands as part of Marquette County. John and Cornelius came a bit later.  There was a 4th brother, Benjamin who went to Rock County in the Janesville area.

Four robbbers came to Wild Rose and attempted to blow the
Wild Rose Bank's safe,  They failed in the bank but were successful
in the Post Office.

Wild Rose Wisconsin Centennial Plate 1873-1973

The center is the Elisha Stewart's house and cobbler shop. Following the clock is Jones first store and post office (the building burned within the year and was not rebuilt (it was where the hotel is now). The Grange Hall was where Laruritzen's station is today. Briggs Inn was built where the current hotel is. The village church was the Methodist church which burned down. It was near the curve on Main St. that turns toward Wautoma. Lincoln's blacksmith shop was where the restaurant is that used to be a garage on Main St. Strong's mill  is in the same location today but is no longer a mill. The school was in the Town of Rose on the Wautoma side.

This picture was on the old Thomas, later Murty farm on N5677 17th  St in the Town of Rose.
Rodney & Carson were first cousins on the Thomas side. Rodney's mother as Maggie Thoms Murty and Carson's was Emmeline (Emma) Thomas Henry.

Wild Rose has an outside skating show from the late 1940's through 1953.Mothers made the outfits and thousands of people came to see the show.

Milton Jones Cows















The family called him Dave but most people knew him as Milton. He was an Uncle of the Walters sisters, Margaret and Lois.  Margaret had used a milking stool to traces the patterns of these registered Holstein cows before took pictures.

Maple Ave in Wild Rose after a Tornado about 1955























Mabel Testin Evans ( wife of Robert), Nellie Evans (sister of Robert), Robert D Evans, Mike Anderson, Ingwald Sorenson and Pam Anderson. The Evans house was to the left of the uprooted tree and Sorensons. The Andersons lived 5 doors down the street on the right.

Etheridge were both graduates of
the class of 1914 in Wild Rose.  Leon was the
son of Thomas 
Deering and Gertrude Towne
He was born October 24, 1896 and died
December 11, 1966. He is buried in 
Greenvale
otherwise known as the 
Dopp Cemetery.  He
was a farmer but also had a strong interest in
music from the violin to the 
accordion and
drums.
Gladys was the daughter of Alanson Pease Etheridge and Lorinda Spicer.  She was
born July 22, 1897 and died in St. Paul,
Minnesota August 16, 1961.  Gladys was a
talented artist.  She was especially good at
weaving and pottery.

Theodore Keppler had the harass shop which became the Wild Rose Museum's Gift shop, general store and weaving room. He also owned the Elisha Stewart House which is part of  our museum.
